Driving back from shopping today my daughter (10) spotted a Pride flag on the local fire station "Oooh look at that!"

I decided to question what she knew of it. She stumbled for a moment trying to find the words but eventually said it is for all people who are Gay, Bi, Transgender.

So I asked, what does Gay actually mean?

The answer is what makes ME proud, she said "it's where a boy likes another boy BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAS TO HAVE A NAME."

I know people have fought long and hard for the right to be recognised in all walks of life and I applaud that fight. So if a 10 year old child can get it, why are there still so many idiots about.

Hopefully future generations will all come to her point of view.

I see lots of people having a little rant at distant realms around the world that repealed same sex marriage and am genuinely staggered by the fact no one mentioned the case of Northern Ireland, one of the most homophobic spots in Western Europe!

Wow.. good for her.

That is what equality means. Great to hear that the younger generation see people as people. Very impressed.

Bermuda repealed gay marriage last week. Religious groups around the world claim the right to discriminate and even persecute. The pendulum can swing back. Hearing comments like your daughter's is real cause for hope that this society at least will not permit a return to the bad old days.

It's also an unanswerable critique of a gay identity that is contrived and much too obsessed with its own separateness. That separateness was only ever the product of a social fault line. To be separate at your own hand makes you a potential target.

I have two nieces; 13 and 16. They too seem to see gay/straight as artificial. They're my heroes.

Hopes are getting high. It is really a blessing to read these lines. I just wish this good wind blows away the hypocrisy that dominates the shadowy places.

Don't let it swing!

That does sound wrong though ๐Ÿ˜€

The fact that America elected a fool like Donald Trump proves that ignorance based idiocy is alive and well. Your story does give hope for the future. Thanks.

I can confirm that the standard of living in Norway is commensurate with the high standard of wrestling, as the so called โ€œVikingsโ€ of Widnes have discovered.
